February 2021, Bachelor party during covid

I was here for a special moment in history. We had planned this party in the early winter of 2020 to go to Mardi Gras. we had no idea if we would still be able to go but we had paid for everything so we held out hope the city would be open. Mardi Gras has been cancelled on 14 times in its 167 year history. The last time it was closed was 1979(police strikes) and it even was still held albeit to a smaller degree in 2006 after the events of Katrina.

It was as spooky time, a city normally stuffed like a po’ boy was deserted. Some restaurants were closed and most of the bars but enough remained open to create a legendary trip. Some was all we needed. we created our own personal brand of debuachery. During a time when the city can see crowds of roughly 1.5 million people during the festival it was uncanny to roam an empty city. Oh and did i mention that year they had record low temps reaching 29 degrees Fahrenheit. A city in cryo sleep still made for a memorable trip. We practically had the city to ourselves. we waited for nothing. what was open was eagerly welcomed us with a open arms (at a 6ft distance).
