ahh Maui, Hawaii a truly exotic place. Its like Oahu but in none of the bad ways. No where else have i felt such a distinct ecosphere all cohabitating a contained ecosystem. Jungle, prairie, ocean, marsh, rivers, mountains, and a volcano. All of it nestled on volcano rock that formed millions of years ago and slowly evolved into a paradise.

First time standing on top of a volcano (Haleakalā) and it was a surreal space to occupy. It is what I imagine mars to feel like. we began the journey by driving up the highway but it more resembled a Mario cart track with its interminable twists and turns. Out your left window you would see nothing but sky the base of the volcano receding from view. Again an experience that caused an indelible impression on me.

Like Bourdain said “travel is not a reward for working, its an education for living”

WILH? short term a year max. i could explore it widely and have my fill for a year.
